“Love Live! Superstar!!” Anime To Stream on Funimation

Funimation announced today the exclusive distribution rights to the new music TV anime “Love Live! Superstar!!”. The latest in the “Love Live!” franchise will be a part of Funimation’s Summer 2021 anime season lineup. Simulcast will begin on July 12, 2021.

Funimation Synopsis: The first students have arrived at Yuigaoka Girls’ High School, a new academy built on the crossroads of three Tokyo neighborhoods—Omotesando, Harajuku, and Aoyama. With no history, no upperclassmen to rely on, and no name to speak of, this school’s totally starting from scratch! In the midst of this, a team of five girls led by Kanon Shibuya discover “school idols.”

—I love singing! I really do! And I want to accomplish something with it!

So the hopes of these stars, still small in stature, begin to accumulate…and so begins the “School Idol Project” of five girls with a blank slate and infinite potential. Time for our Love Live to take flight!

“Love Live! Superstar!!” follows the new idol group “Liella”. The 5 member group include Sayuri Date as Kanon Shibuya, Liyuu as Tang Keke, Nako Misaki as Chisato Arashi, Naomi Payton as Sumire Heanna, and Nagisa Aoyama as Ren Hazuki.

The “Love Live!” franchise is a multimedia project that includes anime, manga, light novels, music and video games. “Love Live! School Idol Project” TV anime premiered in 2013 with a 13-episode first season. The series continued with a second season in 2014. “Love Live! The School Idol Movie”, which was a sequel to the TV anime, was released in 2015.

“Love Live! Sunshine!!” TV anime Season 1 premiered in 2016. Followed by Season 2 premiered in 2017 and then “Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie Over the Rainbow” anime film in 2019. Seasons 1 and 2 can currently be steamed on Crunchyroll and Funimation in subtitles and English dubbing. The anime series and film are also available on blu-ray.

“Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club” TV anime premiered in October 2020 and is currently streaming on Funimation. A second season was recently announced to premiere in 2022.
