“Laid-Back Camp” Anime Film Reveals New Key Art

The official website for the “Laid-Back Camp” (Yuru Camp) franchise released new key art for the upcoming film. The slice-of-life anime movie is set to be released on July 1, 2022 in Japan.

In addition, the website announced that theater attendees will receive the bonus manga volume 13.5. The book will feature a new 24-page story by Afro titled "Rin to Nadeshiko no Inagako Haru Camp" (Rin and Nadeshiko's Spring Camp at Inaga Lake), the manga creators original character designs for the film, a "memorial album" for the anime series, and an original cover illustration (pictured below). The book will be available in a limited quantity.

The franchise recently released the film’s first trailer teasing the story of where the now-older characters reunite to attempt to build their own camping ground. The five main cast members are reprising their roles including: Touyama Nao as “Shima Rin”, Hanamori Yumir as “Kagamihara Nadeshiko”, Toyosaki Aki as “Inuyama Aoi”, Hara Sayuri as “Oogaki Chiaki”, and Takahashi Rie as “Saitou Ena”.

The “Yuru Camp Movie” was initially announced in 2018 with the second season of the series and a concept visual drawn by director Yoshiaki Gyougoku was released in May 2021. The anime film is set after the events of the second season with a slight time jump. In addition to returning director Yoshiaki Gyougoku from the series, the script will be by Jin Tanaka and Mutsumi Ito, with character design by Mutsumi Sasaki, production by DeNA and animation production by C-Station. Shochiku is distributing the film.

“Laid-Back Camp” (Yuru Camp) Season 1 was released in January 2018 and Season 2 was released in January 2021. Both seasons were simulcast on Crunchyroll and are currently available to stream in subtitles.

Crunchyroll Synopsis: Nadeshiko, a high school student who had moved from Shizuoka to Yamanashi, decides to see the famous, 1000 yen-bill-featured Mount Fuji. Even though she manages to bike all the way to Motosu, she's forced to turn back because of worsening weather. Unable to set her eyes on her goal, she faints partway to her destination. When she wakes up, it's night, in a place she's never been before, with no way of knowing how to get home. Nadeshiko is saved when she encounters Rin, a girl who is out camping by herself. This outdoorsy girls story begins with this first encounter between Nadeshiko and Rin.

The anime is based on the manga by Afro, which was launched in Manga Time Kirara Forward magazine in 2015. Yen Press publishes the manga in English and currently has 11 volumes available to purchase in print and digitally. Volume 12 is set to be released on September 20, 2022.

In addition, a new “Yuru Camp” mobile game was announced and is set to be released sometime in 2022. According to the game’s Twitter, additional details will be revealed in June 2022.
