Tokyopop’s LOVE x LOVE Licenses “If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die”

Publisher Tokyopop has licensed under their LOVE x LOVE imprint the Yuri manga “If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die” by Auri Hirao.

Tokyopop’s LOVE x LOVE manga brand focuses on bringing diverse and inclusive stories to romance fans of all kinds. According to Tokyopop, the comedy manga “is an on-going GL series following a hardcore fan of an idol group and her crush, the member with the least number of fans”. “If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die” (Oshi ga Budoukan Ittekuretara Shinu) is currently being serialized in Comic Ryu in Japan since August 2015 and has 9 volumes in print with one million copies in total circulation.

“If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die” Volume 1 is set to be released on June 13, 2023 and Volume 2 is set to be released on August 15, 2023.

Synopsis: When it comes to idol group ChamJam, Eripiyo is the oldest — and perhaps only — fan of Maina Ichii. Despite Eripiyo's enthusiastic support, Maina is the least popular member of the group, but that doesn't deter Eripiyo, even though she spends so much of her money that she only has a single outfit of her own. But her love for Maina doesn't waver, even though she knows she might never be noticed for it!

The manga received an anime adaptation that was released in Winter 2020. All 12 episodes are available to stream on Funimation and Amazon in subtitles and English dubbing. The manga also received a live action drama adaptation that premiered in October 2022 in Japan.
