Seven Seas Licenses Manga “I Wish it Had Just Been Love”

Publisher Seven Seas Entertainment announced during their Anime Expo 2026 panel the license acquisition of the Yuri manga “I Wish it Had Just Been Love” by Rui Obata.

According to Seven Seas, the manga is “an emotional Yuri/Girls’ Love manga, one young woman finally reunites with her senpai from high school—only to discover that she’s completely changed!”. KADOKAWA officially published Volume 1 of the Girls Love manga series in 2026.

“I Wish it Had Just Been Love” will be released for the first time in the English language by Seven Seas in July 2027 for $14.99 USA / $19.99 CAN, with the series available in a single large-trim edition as part of the Seven Seas GL label (Girls’ Love/Yuri titles). An ebook edition will also be available on digital platforms.

Synopsis: Nina had always admired Mao, her senpai from high school. Mao was a diehard rock fan and talented musician who was as gentle as she was strong-willed. When it came time for Nina to pick universities, of course she wanted to follow Mao. But when the two finally reunite, Mao is almost a completely different person…and she’s quit music! While Nina is happy to learn about how her precious senpai has grown, there’s one problem: the guy who causes Mao to look so soft and tender. But this nice-looking-guy isn’t treating Mao the way Nina believes she deserves. Her solution? Show Mao-senpai just how she deserves to be treated by taking her out!
