Tapas Synopsis: 1946 Choseon (Korea). Beautiful and brilliant Dr. Maria Arden returns to the country of her birth as the medical advisor to the U.S. Army—a stranger in an unfamiliar land ravaged by wars and corruption. There, she meets Dr. Kyeongju Lee, an alluring, mysterious woman shunned by society. Their innocent flirtations turn into a heated, forbidden love affair, as an illegal trade in opium threatens Choseon’s fragile stability. Two outsiders drawn helplessly to each other, but… everything was a lie.
Spoiler Free Mini Review: Honestly, one of the best webcomic’s we have ever read. The art, the writing, everything was amazing from beginning to end. We have read a lot of Yuri/GL, and sometimes we forget what it is to experience an amazing story that is above the rest and feels new. “Opium” is that story.
Like some, we initially wrote off the webcomic due to its cover art being so explicit and figured it was little plot with lots of sex scenes. Don’t get us wrong, sometimes we are in the mood for that. But to our pleasant surprise, this was an original historical story, that you could tell after a few chapters, the writer had done research into what women had to face as doctors and in society during that time period. Without giving any details away, the actual romance between the two female leads is well done and believable. We dare you not to fall in love with Maria.
Overall, “Opium” had an interesting plot with action, lots of fun lewd scenes, and ultimately gave you a wonderful romance between two adult women that had you hooked until the end.
