“Luminous Witches” Anime Set To Stream On HIDIVE

Sentai Filmworks announced that they have acquired exclusive rights to the upcoming “League of Nations Air Force Aviation Magic Band Luminous Witches”. HIDIVE will simulcast the anime as it airs in Japan as part of their Summer 2022 Anime Season. The fantasy anime is set to be released on July 3, 2022.

HIDIVE will simulcast the series to audiences worldwide (excluding Asia). Sentai also announced it will release the anime on home video at a later date.

“Luminous Witches” Synopsis: The war against invading aliens can’t be won by missiles alone! Team morale matters just as much as launching a counterassault, and that’s where Ginny and her friends come in. Instead of standing on the front lines with the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, the Luminous Witches of the League of Nations Air Force bring smiles to civilians displaced in the human-Neuroi war world with thrilling song and dance — not to mention aerial displays the likes of which the music world has never seen! While they might be non-combatants, these performers know the value of preserving the people’s smiles, and they’ll fight in their unique way to make sure those smiles never fade.

Known in Japan as “Renmei Kuugun Koukuu Mahou Ongakutai Luminous Witches” (Allied Air Force Magical Idols Luminous Witches), the anime is a spinoff of the Strike Witches franchise.

The anime stars Sayaka Tsuzuki as “Éléonore Giovanna Gassion”, Ami Aimoto as “Lyudmila Andreyevna Rouslanova”, Mai Narumi as “Virginia Robertson”, Minako Hosokawa as “Inori Shibuya”, Ryō Mamiya as “Aira Payvikki”, Linnamar Kana Konaka as “Maria Magadalene”, Dietrich Misaki Yūki as “Manaia Matawhaura”, Hato Rino Yoshikita as “Sylvie Cariello”, Rio Mamesaki as “Joanna Elizabeth Stafford”, and Mikako Komatsu as “Grace Maitland Steward”.

“Luminous Witches” will be directed by Shoji Saeki with Kana Shundo as the assistant director at anime studio Shaft. Humikane Shimada and Projekt World Witches are credited with the original work. Kadokawa is producing the music. The opening theme song, "WONDERFUL WORLD", and the ending theme song, "Watashi to Minna no Uta" (My and Everyone's Song), will be performed by the main cast as an idol group.

“Strike Witches” is a multimedia franchise originally created by Fumikane Shimada. The anime’s original OVA premiered in 2007 and the franchise has since released multiple seasons, a film and additional OVA’s. “Strike Witches” is available to stream in subtitles on Crunchyroll.
